One of the hardest things to do when you’re trying to lose weight, feel lighter, and be an overall healthier person is to eat healthy. I’m a huge foodie, I love any and all food, and will try everything once, or twice, or three times. And if the food happens to be a delicious baked good with melted chocolatey goodness, or a carb-infused delight of butter, or a deep bowl (ok, tub) of ice cream, then all the better! What was I saying? That’s right, trying to eat healthy. See how easy it is to get distracted?
The trick to eating healthy is to remember that healthy doesn’t have to be boring, and it certainly doesn’t have to be bland. When you have the right food lined up, it can be just as exciting to eat well as it does to sneak to McDs on your way home from work, and it actually becomes possible to look forward to a healthy meal…instead of dreaming about all of the other, bad things you could be eating instead.
Because I know exactly how hard it can be to start on the path to healthy eating, and sticking to it, here are some of my favourite recipes, links and ideas for eating healthily, and deliciously:
Yum with TWO capital Ys. I LOVE pizza, so I was hesitant to try this, but it turned out really well. When you’re making the crust, make sure you put it in the oven and cook it a little before you put on your toppings and cooking it the rest of the way. This will make the crust well, crustier, and a lot more sturdy! I ended up eating the entire pizza I made, which still isn’t good but at least it’s better than eating an entire pizza made using dough, right? Right??
Ok, hold the phone, these are SO freaking good. Make sure you add the pinch of baking powder though, otherwise your pancakes will fall apart. I also suggest keeping your frying pan heat down to a bare minimum because the bottoms are quick to burn. I love adding a little lemon juice and sugar to these bad boys, makes them that much more delicious! They’re also pretty filling too, so there’s no real risk of eating too many!
I LOVE what people are doing with veggies these days: cauliflower mashed “potatoes”, cauliflower pizza crust, cauliflower mac n’ cheese! The possibilities are limitless, and I can’t wait to try this one out…especially because it gives me an excuse to eat cheese.
One does NOT have to be a lonely number. I sometimes slack on eating healthy because I don’t like putting in the effort to cook a good meal for just myself; this is where this site comes in handy! Some great recipes that make cooking for yourself less tiresome, more exciting and totally more taste-worthwhile.
I work late some nights, and other nights I just get those nasty cravings when I’m trying to feel tired so I can sleep. When this happens, and my stomach won’t be satisfied with tea or water or counting sheep, then a light snack is the best bet for keeping my scale down, and my guilt non-existent.
Equally great for those late night munchies, or for when you’re just craving a wee something sweet in the middle of the day. I especially love the strawberry and chocolate mousse, I definitely feel like I’m eating something super bad, and that little naughtiness makes eating healthier that much more enticing.
If you’re like me and have a busy day, then cooking an elaborate meal isn’t going to be in the cards…so the less time I have to spend on making healthy food, the better. If I can get something nutritious for the same amount of time that a fast food burger would take me to get, then heck ya!
I haven’t tried these yet either, but the blogger I got it from swears by them…and since she seems to be as big a foodie as I am (aka she also ate the entire batch), then I’m going to take her word for it and believe that they are as delicious as they look. Plus, they seem super easy to make and that’s always a bonus for lazy ol’ me.
Kale, Quinoa, Chia Seeds, Avocado, etc. etc. Everything that is good for you in one post. Need I say more? Ok, I will. I don’t know about you, but I often don’t know how to use those so-called “super foods”, so this is a great website to help you on your way.
Need something delicious to help with those crazy workouts? Have a huge craving for something chocolatey and delicious? Welp, this is your go to! Two birds with one stone, and that ain’t too shabby.
If this works half as well as the zucchini crust pizza did, then I will be there with bells on my toes!
Of course, there are TONS of other recipes, blogs, and sites that will help you eat right, eat healthy and get tight (see what I did there?), but these are some great foods to try out when you’re just beginning your journey, or have hit a plateau and feel the need to consumer every carb you come across. If these foods don’t do it for you, you can always head to my favourite website (Pinterest), and browse to your heart’s content. I’d link my “Eats & Treats” page here for a little more inspiration, but I’ve pinned almost as many sweet treats to that board as I have healthy eats…and let’s face it, if you’re struggling then looking at baked goods and cheesy tater tots it the last thing you need.
Fair warning if you do visit Pinterest though, you might get addicted and end up spending more time pinning than you do actually making the healthy food you pin! It’s always important to remember that while eating healthy is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, it’s not the only part; shutting down your computer and hitting the mat, or going for a walk in the beautiful weather is just as important, so make sure you find a good balance between eating, exercising, and pinning future ideas for living well!
As always, live light in every way, and feel free to message me for anything, even if it’s just to complain that you absolutely hated one of these suggestions! Hey, to each their own 🙂
